The Refurbish Carpenter is an experienced and skilledprofessional responsible for carrying out carpentry-related maintenance,repair, and refurbishment tasks in crew and public areas aboard vessels. Therole involves rotating between vessels as delegated by the Facilities Managerand RCMT Manager to execute specific carpentry projects. Additional duties maybe assigned by department heads and the RCMT Manager to support ongoingoperational and refurbishment needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of wooden and other carpentry-related structures in crew and public areas onboard vessels.
- Rotate between vessels as directed, executing specific carpentry projects and tasks assigned by the Facilities Manager or RCMT Manager.
- Organize and prepare tools, materials, and equipment required to complete assigned repair and refurbishment projects efficiently.
- Conduct inspections to assess carpentry-related issues and determine appropriate solutions.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety standards, company policies, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and materials are stored properly after each job.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and project timelines.
- Immediately report any safety hazards, environmental concerns, or system malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Follow all environmental policies and procedures, working to safeguard the environment and report any environmental system issues promptly.
- Assist in the development and implementation of refurbishment projects, ensuring quality standards are met.
Qualifications & Training:
- Proven experience (minimum of 5 years) in carpentry, specifically in maintenance, repair, and refurbishment within a maritime or industrial environment.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized carpentry equipment.
- Knowledge of safe working practices and safety regulations related to carpentry and maintenance work.
- Ability to read technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Good understanding of environmental policies and commitment to sustainable practices.
- Prior experience working onboard vessels or in a similar high-standard environment is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to rotate between vessels and work in different environments.
Additional Qualifications & Certifications:
- Relevant vocational training or apprenticeship in carpentry or related trade.
- Certifications in safety (e.g., STCW, PPE, firefighting, first aid) are preferred.
- Experience with refurbishment projects, including working with various materials such as wood, laminates, and composites.
