The Carpenter / Varnisher performs building and repair work on woodwork, wallpapering, carpeting, andrelated carpentry tasks throughout the vessel. The role requires a positive,team-oriented attitude and the ability to participate fully in a dynamic crewenvironment. The incumbent supports the Carpenter in maintaining interiorfinishes, doors, panels, and fixtures, while adhering to safety, quality, andenvironmental policies.
KeyResponsibilities:
- General maintenance and repair of woodwork, wall panelling, doors, locks, and related elements.
- Assist with wallpapering, carpeting, and other interior finish work as directed.
- Ensure safe work practices, use appropriate PPE, and keep work areas clean and organized; seal off working areas from passengers as required.
- Follow Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies; attend mandatory safety drills.
- Report progress and any issues to the Carpenter Supervisor; assist with planning and scheduling of carpentry tasks.
- Maintain tools and inventory related to carpentry activities; document maintenance and work performed.
- Participate in meetings, training, and other work-related activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervision; may be asked to support other areas of the Carpentry team as needed.
- Minimum two years of craftsman-related experience and training.
- Elementary to middle school education (8th grade) or international equivalent.
- Any relevant carpentry, finishing, or safety training as applicable.
LanguageRequirements:
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests and crew.
- Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures; effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Additional languages are preferred but not required.
Physical& Environmental Requirements:
- Physical: Regularly stand, walk, and perform manual tasks; operate hand tools; lift up to 50 pounds; may include kneeling, bending, and working in tight spaces.
- Vision: Close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Environmental: Work on a shipboard environment with exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures; use of PPE required; may require shifts or overtime; able to work in confined spaces and at heights as needed. Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and coordination is required to perform duties effectively.
