Fitter AMM

Position Summary:

This position shall carry out the work orders given by the Staff Chief Engineer, Chief Electrical Engineer , Accommodations Maintenance Manager. He/she must be a skilled worker and be able to carry out all kinds of maintenance and repair work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

In addition, all duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, Environmental, and Safety policies.

Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and throughout the ship.

It is every employee’s responsibility to conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crewmember areas.

The individual shall have a willingness to learn and be trained or, if specifically requested by the company, have knowledge in the following systems:

  • Assist in the repair, overhaul and general maintenance (preventive and unscheduled) of the following systems and equipment (all of these under the direct or indirect supervision of the engineers onboard):
        AC Systems
          - Chiller units
          - Filters chiller water distribution
          - Ventilation, heating and air condition systems in staterooms, crew cabins, public spaces and corridors
          - Change AC filters
          - Support AC system overhauls
        Refrigeration equipment
          - Ice making equipment
          - Refrigerators - all types
        Engine Systems
          - Pumps
          - Main and auxiliary engines
          - Propulsion and auxiliary systems
          - Vacuum systems
          - Fuel filters and fuel distribution systems
        Safety and Security equipment
        Electrical and Electronic Systems
          - Switchboard systems
          - Power distribution systems
          - Phone systems
          - Bridge and engine equipment
          - Transformers
          - Audio and video
          - Automation systems
          - Lighting systems, including running wire and changing light bulbs
          - Run diagnostic systems as needed and directed by engineering staff
        Elevators and escalators
        Galley and pantry equipment
        Laundry equipment
        Other miscellaneous equipment onboard as directed from engineering management team
      • General steel work activities, including but not exclusive of welding, including TIG and MIG, lathe operations, sheet metal work, pipe fitting and installation.
      • Arranging tools needed and returning them after the job is completed
      • Cleaning up after completion of any job carried out under his supervision
      • As requested, assist the Technical Support Officer in receiving spare parts and deliveries, maintain all store areas organized and support the storage and removal of parts for maintenance throughout the vessel.
      • The position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of chemicals, supplies and equipment.
Motivational Responsibilities:
      • The position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:

Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job

Hiring Requirements:
      General Requirements
        • Minimum of two years previously in similar position.
        • Completion of high school or basic education equivalency preferred.
        • Maintain current STCW training
        • Completed Fire-Fighting training
Language Requirements:
      • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
      • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
Physical Requirements:
        • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
        • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
