Role Overview
Silversea Cruises is seeking an experienced First Engineer to join its luxury cruise fleet. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the vessel's engine department, ensuring all machinery and engineering systems are maintained to the highest operational and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day management of the Engine Department.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of main propulsion, auxiliary machinery, and associated systems.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineering officers and ratings.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, flag state regulations, class requirements, and environmental standards.
- Participate in maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and dry-dock activities as required.
- Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives onboard.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid STCW certification.
- Certificate of Competency appropriate for the rank of First Engineer.
- Valid IGF (International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-Flashpoint Fuels) Certificate is mandatory.
- Previous cruise ship experience in a similar engineering officer role is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of marine engineering systems and planned maintenance processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working onboard luxury or premium cruise vessels.
- Experience with LNG-fuelled vessels and dual-fuel engine operations.
- Proven ability to lead multicultural teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
